My Story
Hi, I’m Elie!
My Journey
Hi, I’m Elie! I’m passionate about blending creativity with technical expertise to bring joy to the world. From the age of two, dancing has been a central part of my life, teaching me to perceive the world in patterns and rhythms. This early exposure to the art of movement through dance inspired me to explore the overlap of creativity and technical precision. This curiosity led me to pursue dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design at the University of Notre Dame, where I’m set to graduate in May 2025.
Experience
One of the highlights of my career so far has been my two internships with Universal Creative in Orlando, FL. In Summer 2024, I was the Engineering and Safety Mechanical System’s intern and had the chance to work on exciting projects that align with my passion for theme park design and safety. Some of my key contributions include:
Universal Mega Movie Parade: Commissioning 11 parade vehicles to opening day
Testing and Compliance: Testing parade floats, restraint systems, and pyrotechnic devices with a variety of sensors and measurements
Research and Innovation: Observing and interviewing to research and rewrite internal standards
Patent Creation: Collaborating with 3 fellow engineers on a pending patent
My previous role with Universal Creative’s Special Effects team provided valuable experience in safety and technical design. I worked on global safety initiatives, led projects to assess the sustainability of flame effects, and audited compliance for shows such as Halloween Horror Nights’ Nightmare Fuel: Revenge Dream.
I’ve also participated in various competitions and projects, such as:
Ride Engineering Competition: Finished 2nd place nationally with a rollercoaster model up to ASTM standard built by 8 engineers
Toronto Metropolitan Thrill Design Competition: Lead a team of 5 in and pitch innovative ride concepts to Universal Creative in less than 48 hours
Droid Building Challenge: Co-designing and building an animated figure with advanced control systems
Leadership and Involvement
At the University of Notre Dame, I served as President of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA@ND), where I organized industry events and fostered connections within the field. I’m also involved with the ASTM F24 Committee as a student volunteer and mentor with the Society of Women Engineers. My role as a dancer and choreographer with the Notre Dame Dance Company allows me to continue exploring my passion for movement and creativity.
Abroad Experience
Through the University of Notre Dame I was able to study abroad twice. Studying Irish History and Theology across Ireland Summer 2022 and Art History in Corinth, Greece in Summer 2023, I was able to immerse myself into my studies and the local culture. These programs have grown my love for travel and learning through experience.
